What You Will Learn from This Course

This course will improve your understanding and practice when working with domestic abuse victim/survivors affected by trauma. Gaining comprehensive understanding of what trauma is, the physiological, physical, psychological, behavioural and cognitive responses and presentation of someone affected by trauma and how to respond safely. It covers when a normal human trauma response becomes a disorder and explores treatments that can help manage trauma and support healing.

If you are responsible for staff who are working with trauma, the 2-day course will increase your understanding of vicarious (secondary) trauma and why it is different to burnout, it looks at what you and/or the organisation can do to minimise or prevent vicarious trauma. You will have an opportunity to review your individual and organisational practices of how you identify, respond and record trauma and how this is considered in your risk management and safety planning.
